Back in Blog Land

I have not visited blog land in a while in fact not since April 2012. A few things have happened in my life some not pleasant and some rather worrying and stressful for my immediate family and for my husbands family. Having said that I think there might be light at the end of the tunnel and we can all get back to some normality. I am still making cakes and this seems to help me through my problems. I have had orders for birthday cakes, baking for a charity event held at work and also made a cake for a baby shower. I loved doing the baby shower cake I did have an idea for decorating it with teddy bears but when it actually came to it I chose ducks, I think they turned out rather well. I also completed an order for a birthday cake which was ordered by our cleaner at work who wanted a cake for his partners birthday he wanted pink and girly and a heart shaped cake. Apart from making a big booby and putting the name of Anna on instead of Emma, which was easily resolved he was really pleased with the outcome and I have received an order from them to do their wedding cake for their wedding next year. A friend of ours has a daughter who is intending to get married also nest year and they have asked if I would like to do their wedding cake as well. I will also be completing my very first wedding cake order in September which is for our Assistant Site Manager at work whom I made sample vanilla sponge cake, chocolate sponge and a fruit cake for for his family to try. They want all three as a three tier wedding cake. I have just cleaned up my cake dummies so I can practice the design on them and so he can see what it will look like. Here are photo's of the baby shower cake and the birthday cake.

Just a quick note

Just popped on to let you all know that I am still around but seem to be struggling to fit everything in. I am still making cakes although things have gone a little quiet. I have had an enquiry for a wedding cake and made some samples over the weekend, they asked for a fruit cake, chocolate sponge and a vanilla sponge. These were collected today so will now need to see if they like them, if they do they will let me have some ideas on what decoration they want and how many tiers. I have some cake dummies as you know so can decorate them in the design they want so they can see it beforehand, that's if they go ahead. The Wedding is in September so that is a reasonable length of time as long as they don't leave it till last minute as I have to fit all this in around a full time job. So we shall see.
The weekend before we moved our son and his new family into a two up two down terrace away from the city centre and away from the horrible one bedroom apartment they were in. They have been in their new home for a week now and we saw them at the weekend. They needed help with curtains etc for the windows, so we went over. Hubby, son and daughter in law to be went out to see what they could get and guess what, little old me got to babysit. I had a wonderful time with our granddaughter and she wasn't phased at all about being left behind. She was a joy to keep an eye on. I managed to get a couple of pics in the bouncer that she has, I was told that when you put her in it and said bouncy bouncy, she did just that, she played in it for ages and then she had a nap in my arms while I watched TV. We took our dog with us to and she was very good around the little one in fact I think she was a little bit scared at seeing someone that is almost as small as her. Our granddaughter Luna is six months old this week and I think she is adorable.

This is his room

This is work in progress, although hubby has promised he will be moving out today, he is in his room now doing the skirting and then it is clean up time and theeeeeen, I get my room back. He is a very noisy squatter and I like my space so I don't spend much time at my computer. I am not keen on the colour scheme but then he always likes to shock I am glad the rest of the house is not like this. Will post some photos when he has moved in and it is looking more like his room!

Someone moved in!

Just to continue earlier post, this is when the "squatter moved in" It is an absolute mess I have to climb over things to get to my space!

My Craft Room

You know I said I had a craft room in a post way back, this was our son's old room now he has moved out we re-decorated and it has become my space and will be a spare room for visitors, I just need to get a sofa bed. However, I have a squatter, hubby decided he was doing out his study and so he moved in. Just to remind you here is a photo of before and after he moved in.

Latest Cakes

Oh how time runs away, I had not realised it had been some time since I last posted on my blog. We are busy doing some more DIY so the house is a bit of a top at the minute, I will share more of the DIY with you later. My life is extremely busy at the moment both at work and at home. Here are the latest creations from my kitchen. I had three birthday cake orders to complete, one was for a 4 year old boy and he wanted a Fireman theme, so I printed off a picture and added some wording. Unfortunately the icing sheet had lifted a little while it dried so it is not as smooth as I would like, I added some red and white balls of fondant to decorate the base instead of using ribbon and I hear the young man in question was please with his cake. The second cake was for a 50th birthday a friends wife at work placed an order for her cake and she had supplied me with a picture and had said she did not want the usual white with colour added, so I produced this lemon covered cake with white flowers and bow and tag added and also some beading. The final cake was for a certain football team supporter this time the icing sheet went on perfectly and I also managed to do some royal icing, this has been a bit hit and miss for me but like everything else I just need to practise.

Black and White

I need to get a portfolio together which I have more or less for most of the cakes I have done, but if my friends and I are going to make a go of the Wedding Side of things then I need to get some designs together for Wedding Cakes. In an earlier post you saw a pink and white design with small flowers which I made from fondant. This time I have kept it quite simple but is quite effective. I have used a black and white them and I have used black ribbon with a black strip with square diamante on it, I have used some white and silver butterflies, and black feathers, of course this can be done in any colour them, I have just used what I had in my goodie box.
