Someone moved in!

Just to continue earlier post, this is when the "squatter moved in" It is an absolute mess I have to climb over things to get to my space!

My Craft Room

You know I said I had a craft room in a post way back, this was our son's old room now he has moved out we re-decorated and it has become my space and will be a spare room for visitors, I just need to get a sofa bed. However, I have a squatter, hubby decided he was doing out his study and so he moved in. Just to remind you here is a photo of before and after he moved in.

Latest Cakes

Oh how time runs away, I had not realised it had been some time since I last posted on my blog. We are busy doing some more DIY so the house is a bit of a top at the minute, I will share more of the DIY with you later. My life is extremely busy at the moment both at work and at home. Here are the latest creations from my kitchen. I had three birthday cake orders to complete, one was for a 4 year old boy and he wanted a Fireman theme, so I printed off a picture and added some wording. Unfortunately the icing sheet had lifted a little while it dried so it is not as smooth as I would like, I added some red and white balls of fondant to decorate the base instead of using ribbon and I hear the young man in question was please with his cake. The second cake was for a 50th birthday a friends wife at work placed an order for her cake and she had supplied me with a picture and had said she did not want the usual white with colour added, so I produced this lemon covered cake with white flowers and bow and tag added and also some beading. The final cake was for a certain football team supporter this time the icing sheet went on perfectly and I also managed to do some royal icing, this has been a bit hit and miss for me but like everything else I just need to practise.

Black and White

I need to get a portfolio together which I have more or less for most of the cakes I have done, but if my friends and I are going to make a go of the Wedding Side of things then I need to get some designs together for Wedding Cakes. In an earlier post you saw a pink and white design with small flowers which I made from fondant. This time I have kept it quite simple but is quite effective. I have used a black and white them and I have used black ribbon with a black strip with square diamante on it, I have used some white and silver butterflies, and black feathers, of course this can be done in any colour them, I have just used what I had in my goodie box.

Primrose and Blue

At the same time as the Valentines cake orders I received I also had another request. A friend at works husband celebrated his 50th birthday on Valentines Day and she asked for a cake for him. She wanted to surprise him and had always said she wanted me to do a boobie cake for him. So, when the time came we got down to the colours that she wanted she said she didn't mind but when I insisted she tell me she said she wanted primrose and blue if possible. I had already thought that this would be what was required so was happy to oblige as they are big Warrington Fans. So I set to work and coloured the fondant as required, it took some time and my hands were all colours in the end , but I think I got it right and they were well pleased with the end result.

Valentines Cakes

Well February is nearly over and we will soon be in to March. We have been rather busy with one thing and another and mostly the weekends are spent visiting our son as they are trying to find a new home it is not easy in this day and age when they don't work bit I am sure it will get sorted. As usual I have been baking and had some orders for valentines day, here are the cakes that I made., They are Vanilla Victoria sponge cakes with white fondant and decorated with red. I have started colouring the fondant myself it is much easier and cheaper to do as the ready coloured stuff can be quite expensive especially if you only need a small amount.

Pink and White

I didn't have any baking to do this weekend, although we had a day out on Saturday and visited our son and his family to help them with moving some of their things into storage in preparation for when they do actually move. We had a really good day with them all be it was very tiring. Sunday was spent shopping and doing a bit of housework but as ever my kitchen drew me and I decided I was going to try out some more cake decorating and so I got my cake dummies out. I had in mind to try and do a simple wedding cake design or it could be used for any type of celebration. The theme was pink and white and I put the finishing touches to it about half an hour ago. The trick with all decorating is knowing when to stop which I hope I have managed. I would like to do some wedding cakes so thought I would try these ideas out and photograph them for my portfolio. I am hoping to take this in to work to hand over to my friend for her to photograph properly.
